Abstract

Diesel engine play important role in the field of commercial transportation and agricultural machinery on account of its superior fuel efficiency. Due to shortage of diesel fuel and its increasing cost as well as hazardous emission emitted by diesel engine, the use of biodiesel and its blends has gained importance over the past two decades due to its environmental and economic benefits. Based on results available in literature the use of biodiesel and its blends with diesel improve diesel engine performance and reduce emissions. There exists scope for performance improvement and emission reduction with diesel, biodiesel as base fuel with nanoparticle as additive. In this review paper work has been done to demonstrate the effect of various nanoparticles added diesel and biodiesel on performance and emission characteristics of CI engine.
